Expansion chambers are only of use for paintball guns using CO2. The CO2 in your bottle is in a liquid form and for most paintball guns it is necessary for that liquid CO2 to expand into its gas form before it enters the valve of the paintball gun. Liquid CO2 going directly into the valve of most paintball guns will cause the gun to opertate very ineffeciently and also will cause huge velocity spikes. Expansion chambers provide "dead" space for the liquid CO2 to expand into its gas form, and in so doing, can help make your CO2 powered paintball gun more effecient and consistent.
