The Grid Fighters League for 2012

Posted by Badlands Inc. on 5/3/2012

Following a successful 2011 season, the Grid Fighters League (GFL) has taken Canada by storm. The Grid Fighters format, unique in its TV- friendly qualities, is now quickly becoming one of Canada’s largest extreme sports shows hosted on public grounds. In association with X Sports (www.thexsports.com), the Grid Fighters series is being fought alongside a GFL 3 man competition, as well as Flat Land BMX, BMX racing, Skateboarding, and Rock climbing, attracting international competitors.

After 3 years of demo’s and testing, the full Grid Fighters format is ready to be unleashed for 2012. In association with Badlands Paintball, all Grid Fighters and GFL matches will be played on a full professional Planet Eclipse playing field, provided compliments of Planet Eclipse.

The GFL Professional division, used to showcase the format in 2011, has joined with the Semi-Pro division to create 10 franchises. In this 5 vs 5 fast paced format, we see teams square off over four  5-minute quarters, in a race to score the maximum amount of points while defending against “re-spawning” players, creating fast paced, non-stop, paintball action.

The Entry level and Young Gun divisions are capped by skill level and age. These divisions are designed to get new players into the sport in a 3 man, ‘race-to’ format. This division offers players a great day of competition, and cash prizes.

In addition to the support of Ground Zero Paintball, Planet Eclipse, INKA, and Badlands Paintball, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport are awarding a Celebrate Ontario grant of $37,100.00 to support this new sports tourism initiative in Gananoque.

Marc Beaudin, of Ground Zero Paintball and Grid Fighters, had this to say:

“While it is lots of work that is physically demanding, the reward comes when you see the kid’s participation. There is nothing like competing in front of a crowd for them”.

We couldn’t agree more Marc.
